Air Purifiers: Which one to get and Why

The demand for air purifiers has increased ten fold with the corona virus pandemic. The record breaking fires in the west of North American sparks the demand as well. Is an air purifier right for your home? Your office space? But which one to get? Today we will be dissecting the downsides and benefits of three different air purifiers: Pure Enrichments’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier, Germ Guardian’s True HEPA air filter, and Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1. We will examine this distinction more, but for now it is important to point out the difference in an air purifier versus an air filter. Filters typically clean the air by removing particles, purifiers, however, sanitize the air by destroying the unwanted particles usually with heat or UV. The basics of a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter is a thin mesh that the air is forced through, trapping small particles, such as dust, pet dander, etc.

For our product review, we will be focusing on four criteria: cost, technology efficiency, versatility, and aesthetic.

The Stats

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1

Cost

Pure Enrichment’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier is the most expensive option at $149.99 on the Pure Enrichment website. However, this cost stems from the high end technology it incorporates.

Germ Guardian’s True HEPA Air Filter is our mid range price option. This filter costs $94.99 on the Guardian Technology website. However, Amazon offers the same device for only $83.33, plus with free shipping this is a solid affordable option.

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1 is our most affordable option. This air purifier is $69.99 on the Toppin website, but can be found for two dollars cheaper on Amazon.

Technology Efficiency

Pure Enrichment’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier covers the largest area of 190 square feet, making it a good option for a large room or entire floor. It incorporates a 4-in-1 HEPA filter, which consists of a carbon pre-filter, a true HEPA filter, a UV-C light photocatalyst filter, and an ionizer. The UV-C light bulb has a 10,000 hour life, and thus seldom needs replacement. One of the benefits of this option is the energy efficient feature of a self-adjusting fan speed. The fan automatically changes according to the current air quality or the user can select one of three fan speeds. Another energy saving feature is the automatic timer, which allows the user to chose how long the device will run for. Removing 99.97% of airborne particles, this is a highly efficient device.

Germ Guardian’s True HEPA Air Filter covers 167 square feet, slightly less than the Pure Enrichment option, but removes the same 99.97% of airborne contaminants. It utilizes its 4-in-1 HEPA filter to dissolve airborne bacteria and mold and UV-C light to kill germs and bacteria. The user has the option of three different fan speeds, and can also decide whether or not to have the UV-C light engaged. It is recommended that the filter be replaced every six to eight months, and the UV-C bulb every ten to twelve months.

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1 is built more for an office space or singular room, covering about 100 square feet. Similar to the other options, it contains a 4-in-1 HEPA filter. This device includes a blue night light feature, making it perfect for the bedroom, plus it is a very quiet option. The user has the option of three different fan speeds, depending on the air quality. The filter of this apparatus typically lasts three to six months.

Versatility

Pure Enrichment’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier removes 99.97% particles as small as 0.3 microns including dust, pollen, pet dander, and smoke. The removal of these airborne contaminants helps to reduce household odors.

Germ Guardian’s True HEPA Air Filter similarly removes 99.97% of airborne contaminants including dust and allergens such as pollen, pet dander, and mold spores. It also kills germs and bacteria and captures odors from pets, smoking, and cooking.

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1 eliminates slightly less airborne contaminants, coming in at 95%. The filter can be used to remove any smoke in the air, improving the Air Quailty Index (AQI). The purifier component removes small particles such as dust, pollen, and pet dander, as well as eradicating cooking and smoke odors.

Aesthetic

Pure Enrichment’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier has a sleek height of 27 inches and weighs 9.3 pounds, making it able to be transported from room to room. It also can easily fit in the corner of any room. The modern design of the flat face edge is very appealing. At a max noise of 60.2 decibels, this device can run without being a disturbance.

Germ Guardian’s True HEPA Air Filter is 22 inches tall, a similar size to PureZone. However, the design is a bit chunkier. It has an ultra quiet mode that is a gentle white noise, perfect for a good night’s sleep. This gadget is easy to carry into different rooms, weighing 8.55 pounds.

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1 is built more for a desk than floor, and stands only 9.3 inches tall. This smaller dimension makes it easy to hide and takes up less space than the other two options. With the smaller size, it can take in less volumes of air at a time, and may not work for an entire house. This device would be perfect for an office, especially when returning to a shared space after remote work. Additionally, the purifier runs at a low noise level with a maximum of 58 decibels at high speed and less than 37 decibels on low speed, making it easy to have running while trying to fall asleep. This device is super easy to transport weighing only 2.3 pounds.

Analysis & review

With so many applications, an air filter is the perfect holiday gift. Whether you are from the West Coast of North America and want protection from wildfire smoke, or allergic to dogs and need to remove pet dander, an air purifier can help you out!

Pure Enrichment’s PureZone 4-in-1 True HEPA Air Purifier is the best option for a large space. It is an energy efficient filter, trapping almost all of the airborne contaminants. It has a sleek, modern design that would fit perfectly into any home. It is the only device with a fan timer and automatic fan speed adjustment.

Germ Guardian’s True HEPA Air Filter has amazing efficiency as well. The only features lost with the cheaper price would be the timer, automatic speed adjustment, and design, but if you care more about practicality, then this is the gadget for you.

Toppin’s HEPA Comfy Air C1 is a much smaller and quieter design that still covers a large amount of square footage. Costing the least, it may make sense to purchase one of these filters for multiple desired rooms. However, at a filtration rate of 95%, it may leave some particles in the air. If closer to 100% cleanliness is needed, either Pure Enrichment or Germ Guardian, may be a better option.
